Oleander Poisoning in Cattle in Devghat, Nepal- a Case Report

Oleander poisoning, though widely seen in the Mediterranean region, is rarely Nepal. The poisonous effect of fodder due to accidental ingestion different parts ‘oleandrin’ which contains cardiac glycosides called cardenolides causing mortality animals. In our study, 8 lactating cows were affected after oleander leaves accidentally mixed and chopped with Napier. After fodder, out cows, 5 died instantly remaining 3 showing severe clinical signs such as depression, anorexia, ruminal atony, diarrhea, serous nasal discharge, tachycardia, irregular heartbeat. diagnosis poisoning was made by finding feed content. visual observation along gross lesions specifically heart coagulative necrosis- it acts glycosides- we came diagnose oleandrin poisoning. As there not availability digoxin-specific antibodies for therapy, symptomatic supportive treatment done, good prognosis on morbid animals within a week.
